I just visited Google News and under U.S. news stories there was prominently displayed the headline Huckabee: Politicization of rape victims' deaths 'heartbreaking' The headline links to a CNN.com story about Huckabee and the Dumond parole. It struck me that once again in the Republican world view black is white and up is down.

While the exact details of the Dumond parole aren't clear, I think the most likely scenario was brought forward by a reader at Talkimg Points Memo. Regardless of how we parse the explanations, denials, and self-righteous outrage coming out of the Huckabee campaign, it's obvious that Huckabee as Governor of Arkansas interjected himself into the legal process. Dumond would likely never have left prison if Mike Huckabee hadn't made a decision to use his political influence as Governor to set Dumond free.
It's not the far-left liberal blogs that have politicized this case, it's not the competing Republican campaigns, it's not the news media - Mike Huckabee politicized the Dumond case by refusing to let the legal and penal process run its course. He made a political decision and, as it turns out, a very bad one.
Wouldn't it be nice to see a journalist ask Mike Huckabee the question: Governor Huckabee, you've decried the "politicization" of the Dumond case, but didn't you politicize the Dumond case as Governor by using your political influence to set him free?
